We are delighted to announce the teams that will play for the Whitbread Trophy as part of the International Day for The King’s Coronation Cup at Guards Polo Club on 29 July. First played for in 1957, the Hurlingham Polo Association are thrilled that the historic Whitbread Trophy will be presented on this occasion by a member of the Whitbread family.
An exciting Young England team will play the Commonwealth as part of these landmark celebrations in the King’s coronation year, demonstrating the strength of polo talent across the Commonwealth nations. Young England captain Louis Hine (5) will lead Will Millard (2), Luke Wiles (4), and Will Harper (4) against an experienced Commonwealth side of Adebayo Karim (2), Abhimanyu ‘Abby’ Pathak (4), and Jake Daniels (5), captained by Hissam Ali Hyder (4). With both sides evenly-matched at 15 goals, this promises to be a fast-paced and competitive game.
England’s captain, 17-year-old Louis Hine, was part of the Coronation Cup team that defeated Uruguay last year, and in doing so became the youngest person ever to represent England in the Coronation Cup. Berkshire-based Louis brings a wealth of experience to the team, and is already a two-time winner of the Gold Cup, as well as a winner of the Prince of Wales and the Archie David.
Commonwealth captain Hissam Ali Hyder will represent Pakistan in this match, and is looking forward to it. “I won the Coronation Cup in 2016 [as part of the Commonwealth team] so I know the excitement that comes with the event – especially a couple of days before! We will try to play a couple of practices ahead of the match hope, and hopefully we can get a good coach organised to help us plan for the game,” said Hyder.
