Following the incident during a match at Cowdray Park Polo Club of Friday, 11 September 2026, which resulted in the tragic death of Harry Revell, the HPA conducted an internal review of the incident. The review was led by our Disciplinary Steward, who is empowered by Part 3 of the HPA’s Rules to do so.
While this incident did not occur at an HPA national league tournament, the HPA review was carried out in line with our responsibility as a governing body and policies in respect of any serious incident.
Having reviewed the statements and reports provided to the HPA, the Disciplinary Steward has concluded that the consequences of the incident, while devastating, were nevertheless unforeseen and not intentional. As such, no further action is being taken by the HPA against any player involved, and it was determined that there was no merit in bringing a charge or holding a disciplinary hearing. While there appears to be a foul during play, in the majority of cases such a foul would not have the consequences that it did on this occasion. The HPA have recommended to the Club involved, Cowdray Park Polo Club, that it may wish to consider reducing the two-match ban imposed on the player involved and to treat the foul more in line with a yellow flag offence.
