An England team will travel to Chantilly, France at the end of September to play in the Europe – Zone C Qualifiers for the XIII FIP World Championships

The road to the XIII Federation of International Polo (FIP) World Polo Championship continues as England, Switzerland, Italy and France battle for the Zone C qualifying spot for the 2027 World Championships.

England will be represented by Matt Perry (5), Tommy Severn (5), Jack Hyde (4), and Arsalan Karim (0) in the tournament from 23-27 September.

The World Championship journey for this cycle began in Wellington, Florida, in April this year where the United States, Guatemala, and Mexico competed in the Zone A Playoffs for a spot in the prestigious event. After Mexico and USA both defeated Guatemala in the first two games of the tournament, the Zone A qualifier came down to a winner-takes-all match and it was the team from the USA who earned a 6-4 victory and a guaranteed spot at the World Championship.

Defending champions Spain, who defeated the USA in the 2022 final, are also guaranteed a ticket to the championship, with the other final teams expected to come from Zone B, – with Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay are set to compete for the coveted spot this month – Zone D (Asia & Oceana), and Zone E (Africa, Pakistan, and India).

The World Championship is played at 10-14 goal level, allowing the maximum number of countries to compete. Matches are four chukkas, with a round robin format in the qualifying stages and points awarded for wins to decide the qualifying country in each zone qualifier.

England last played in an FIP World Championship in 2017, when Satnam Dhillon, Pete Webb, Henry Porter, Josh Cork, and Ed Banner-Eve finished in third behind winners Argentina and runners-up Chile in the FIP XI Sydney World Championship.

More details on the tournament schedule and how to watch will be released soon.
