JAMES BEIM STEPS DOWN AS FRASERS ENGLAND CAPTAIN

After five years in the role James Beim will be standing down as England Captain. Having represented England since 2001 he has played in the Coronation Cup 12 times, winning 7 times, 3 as captain. He was also at the helm for three Westchester Cup victories including when England famously beat America in Florida in 2009. John Tinsley (Ex chair of the International Committee) added some comment:

‘Beimy has been a senior member of the England squad during the past 18 years of my involvement with the International Committee. I have much admired him from the day, in 2001,  I met him at Melbourne airport to join the England FIP group, until the present as England captain. Perhaps my greatest memory of him was as a serious member of the England team that unexpectedly won the Westchester in Florida in 2009. I invited him to be England captain in 2013; and he has carried this out with great skill, dignity and diplomacy’. 

Always well mounted, Beimy has enjoyed widespread success here and overseas, and especially in 2018 when he led the all British El Remanso team to win the Gold Cup final.

From his team mate Ollie Cudmore:

‘Beimy is one of England’s most successful ever professionals, he was a fantastic captain and team mate who I loved playing for.’

Beimy has also seen considerable changes to the International Day, including the introduction of new sponsors and the move from Guards to the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club. He has taken on the off field challenges with the same professionalism as on field. From the current Chairman of the International Committee, Richard Britten-Long:

‘Beimy has been a huge support to myself and the many international teams that have played both here and overseas. Individually he is still one of our best players and he has been instrumental in our considerable success against many different countries.’

His final game as captain for the Coronation Cup in 2019 turned out to be against possibly the best 27 goal team that could be fielded worldwide and the final word comes from Facundo Pieres, Captain of the Argentine team:

‘Being Captain of your country is always a great honour. Like I have, Beimy has enjoyed the responsibility that comes with that. He is a great competitor and was a great captain for England. I wish him all the best for the future, knowing that his passion for playing polo will not be any less.’
