The Young England and Young Argentina teams that will compete for the Whitbread Tankard on International Day, 27 July 2024, have been revealed.
England will be led by captain Tommy Severn (5) making his international debut with Louis Hine (5), Ned Hine (5), and Will Harper (4). In the reserve spot is Zac Beim (4).
For Young Argentina, the line up is Tommy Ballesteros (2), Lucas Criado (6), Javier ‘Chulo’ Guerrero (6), and Felipe Dabas (6).
The Whitbread Tankard was donated to the Hurlingham Polo Association in 1956 by Colonel Bill Whitbread, former Chairman of the Whitbread brewery, on behalf of the Colonel Whitbread Trust. It has been played as a Young England fixture since 2007, and this will be the highest handicap level that has been played. Some of the biggest stars in polo have their names on this trophy, and it was won by Young England last year playing against a team from The Commonwealth.
Captain Tommy Severn has been playing the high goal this season alongside teammates Louis and Ned Hine, mainly playing for Thai Polo Get A Drip, in the Prince of Wales and Queen’s Cup. Will Harper has been playing in the number 2 spot for King Power, who reached the semi-finals of the Queen’s Cup and have also advanced to the semi-finals of the Cowdray Gold Cup, playing their next match on Wednesday 17 July.
The Whitbread will be played at 11am on The Duke’s Ground; gates will open from 10am and spectators are encouraged to watch what promises to be an outstanding match. Tickets, pitchside parking, and hospitality packages can be purchased from Guards directly.
