The Hurlingham Polo Association is the governing body for polo in the UK, Ireland and many other countries throughout the world. The HPA is responsible for the regulations and rules under which the game is played. This includes the handicapping of anyone playing in the U.K. or Ireland, and the fixtures list. The HPA also promotes polo generally and provides support to the affiliated clubs in the UK and Ireland and overseas associations.
We are currently seeking a new Director of Sport to lead the sporting aspects of the organisation.
We are looking for a very special person for this role and therefore there is flexibility in what we are seeking to ensure we get the right candidate. We are open to proposals around part-time working, job-share and other flexible proposals. We work in a hybrid fashion already but there would still be a need for good interaction with the office team, and so an expectation of being in the office a minimum of 2 days per week at least during the run up to and throughout the main polo season.
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of the rules of polo and be well networked across the polo industry. It is vital they have excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team and within an organisation with a committee structure. They must have excellent organisational skills, both in the office and in delivering polo itself, such as organisation of the England team, supporting United Kingdom team and working with the Pony Club on junior polo. They will be used to working as part of a team and collaboratively. They should have a can-do attitude as we are a small team, and you never know what jobs come along!
The HPA office is a small friendly team based in a barn conversion near Faringdon in Oxfordshire, with free parking but not easily accessed by public transport. The office is very dog friendly and so you will need to be comfortable around dogs. You can bring your own well-behaved dog to the office.
Expectation for a full-time role, 35 hours per week but flexible for the right candidate. Weekend working and evening working during the season will be required.
