At 3pm the 23 goal Flannels England men’s team took to the field. The match began with Aussie ten goal legend Sinclair Hill throwing the first ball in. The tone of the match was set with a goal for each side within the opening minute. In a great display of open, running polo the lead changed hands several times. At the start of the second chukka England were 3-1 down only to end the chukka 4-3 up. The Aussies had the best of the third with some incredible goals and went into halftime 6-4 ahead. 
The start of the second half saw England catch and overtake Australia to lead 8-6 but skill and determination from the hosts, in particular Ruki Baillieu , saw them equalise at 8-8 in the last. With moments left on the clock Ruki launched a speculative shot from the boards that soared between the posts putting Australia ahead and not enough time for England to come back. Described by many spectators afterwards as one of the best games of polo they had seen it was a testament to the skills of both teams and in particular to their horsepower.
Great effort by both of our Flannels England teams; it is incredibly difficult to win overseas international polo matches so congratulations to all our players for getting as close as they did.
