The stage is set for an unmissable International Day in 2026, offering world-class polo at the highest level played on British soil, combined with a fantastic day out in one of polo’s most iconic locations. On 25 July at Guards Polo Club, England will play Uruguay for the Coronation Cup, following an opening game between Young England and Young Argentina for the Whitbread.
The morning game has quickly become established as one of the unexpected highlights of the international season, with those arriving early treated to a red-hot contest between the best of the young players from two powerhouse polo nations. Young England snatched the victory in 2024, before Young Argentina made amends with a win in 2025. The main game for the historic Coronation Cup, first played in 1911, welcomes Uruguay back to the Queen’s Ground following their first visit here in 2022, when England stole an 11-9 victory, with England captain Tommy Beresford making his Coronation Cup debut and a young Louis Hine making waves as the match’s youngest winner at just 17 – a record later broken by Argentina’s Rufino Laulhé in 2024.
England captain Tommy Beresford said: “It’s very exciting – we had a really tight game a few years ago so it’s great to have a rematch against them. It’s a tough challenge – they’re a great team with a lot of experience in four-man polo, and Pélon [Stirling, Uruguay captain] is arguably one of the best players in the history of the game. Even though we’re all focusing on our individual polo ahead of the season, we also have our sights set on the Coronation Cup.”
